Since I started studying the course of Child Psychology and Early Childhood Education, I have been in contact with many people, professionals and news of the industry. Recently, the news about high turnover rates of preschool teachers has been a hot discussion topic and caught my attention. So I decided to do some research about.

I found out that it is due to many reasons but not being able to cope with stress is the reason mentioned the most. “some parents are very particular and they will keep asking why, if something happens to the child regardless whether it is a big or small issue. She could not cope with the mental stress and even have nightmares about it.” (A Paulo, Peh & Grosse, 2018). After discussing and combining various ideas we had, we decided to venture on the topic - burnout. Due to its’ prevalence in Singapore’s work industry, we have deduced that it was an ongoing issue that could be further examined and studied on. It was a topic that the group had simultaneously agreed on.

However, during the interview with the principal, we were told that burnout is a subjective and narrow topic to research on. She mentioned that My First Skool (Seng kang) is a Megacentre. It is special and different from other preschools which captures our interest. Hence, we changed our topic and pursue Megacentre as the new topic.
